Challenging Times, Challenging Stereotypes Campaign

In the recent days, weeks and months it is becoming evident that these times are challenging for young people – we are seeing limited university places, higher tuition fees, cuts in youth provision, drastically high youth unemployment, and continued  attacks from both the media and politics on the credibility and character of young people.

Frontier Youth Trust, with the StreetSpace network, intends to challenge these negative assumptions – we assert that ALL young people are exceptional and that they ALL have a positive contribution to bring to society. In these unsettling times, more than ever, we believe in hope for all young people and we stand by this positive image in the face of these challenges.

Frontier Youth Trust invites people (young people, youth workers, youth projects and other supporters) to send an ‘ASBO Jesus’ postcard with your own positive message about young people to the power holders in your community.

Postcards are available on request from the FYT office – we invite you to fill them with a personal positive message about young people (or issues facing young people including unemployment, the media, youth provision, the recent riots, and/or university education), and then post them to your MP, Counsellor, or even the Prime Minister.

Join us in our assertion that young people are Alright, Sensational, Beautiful and Original (ASBO) – we believe that in these challenging times it is our responsibility to challenge the untrue and unjust stereotypes given to young people in this country.
