Police Authority Budget Survey 2012-13

The purpose of this consultation is to gather your views on the Avon and Somerset Police budget for 2012-13 and in particular whether you think there should be an increase in the policing part of the council tax. We will also be asking questions on your perceptions of crime and confidence in your local police.

Why we are consulting

It is the responsibility of Avon and Somerset Police Authority to set the policing budget for 2012-13 (including the policing part of the council tax). Avon and Somerset Police have an annual budget of £280 million which is made up of central Home Office grants (66%) and local Council Tax (33%).

Over the period 2011 – 2015 police forces in England and Wales face a significant spending challenge, with central government funding being cut by 20%.

This means that there will be some difficult decisions to be made and we need your views and opinions to help make these decisions.

We will also be asking people about the Council Tax question in this survey at the following places:

The Podium (Bath) - 24 November
The Galleries (Bristol) - 9 December
For All Healthy Living Centre (Weston) - 12 December
Cabot Circus (Bristol) - 15 December
Garden World (Brent Knoll) - 19 December
ASDA (Yeovil) - 5 January
