We end 2011 on a positive note with a Royal visit from HRH The Princess Royal in support of Alabaré’s work with Armed Forces veterans – read more below. We would also like to thank everyone who has supported our campaign to save The Well and Lazarus House, which has been positively received by the people of Bristol. A big thank you to Duncan Little who ran 10k in support of Alabaré, and we are also delighted to announce that we have opened a new Move On home for veterans in Salisbury. With the figures for the Clevedon Sleep Out reaching £5,775 (to be split with Crisis Centre Ministries) we would like to end by wishing all our supporters a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous 2012!
HRH The Princess Royal visits Alabaré’s Bristol Home for Veterans
HRH The Princess Royal has expressed support and praise for Alabaré’s work with ex-Service personnel whilst visiting our Bristol Home for Veterans this month. Princess Anne heard stories from residents and was shown around the premises by members of staff, learning about the dedicated package of support Alabaré provides for veterans. The Princess Royal spent a considerable amount of time talking with veterans, met donors and wished Alabaré well for our £6m fundraising campaign.
Thank you for your support for Lazarus and The Well
Since publicising the threat of closure of Lazarus House and The Well by Bristol City Council, we have received overwhelming support from our supporters and concerned people alike. The story caught the eye of BBC Radio Bristol who ran a piece covering the problems faced by vulnerable women relying on The Well. Also showing tremendous support have been Crisis Centre Ministries; One25 in Bristol; Bristol Feminist Network; Manchester Action on Street Health; and individuals and churches who have written to Bristol City Council, or have attended consultation meetings. Please continue to support Lazarus House and The Well, and keep in contact to see progress on the consultation, which has been extended to later in January due to the interest generated.
The Well is a five bedroomed house providing supported accommodation for women leaving the sex industry, which has been running since 2003. So far 163 women have benefitted from this provision, which is unique in Bristol.
Lazarus Housel is a 10 bedroomed project providing supported accommodation focusing on men who are ex-offenders , which has been running since 2003.
Bristol City Council has begun a 10 week consultation about Homelessness Prevention High Support Services and is proposing 3 things: the closure of Lazarus House and The Well; a reduction in the number of men’s and women’s bed spaces; and that support would be provided solely in generic hostels which are considerably larger in size.
Duncan runs for Alabaré

Clevedon Sleep Out final figure announced
We are delighted to announce that Alabaré and Crisis Centre Ministries together raised over £5775 through the Sleep Out in Clevedon this September.
