June News

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The bulletin remains an opportunity for anyone on the list to share news, advertise events and put out requests for help. Please let me know if you would like me to add an item in the future.

I met with the Bristol University clinical student leadership team recently. Clinical students move around the region between the different academies. The team are keen to establish student groups in each of the hospitals they are assigned to. It would greatly help to have one or two senior Christian clinicians in each DGH to be a fixed point of reference - a local link person. Such a role would not be a heavy commitment requiring presence rather than time. Please let me know if you can help.

Here are some forthcoming events which I’ll list in order

Saturday 23rd June 7.30pm - County-wide Gloucestershire meeting in Cheltenham. Please contact Richard Cook ().

24th June – 6th July 2012 – Developing Health Course - Preparing to work overseas? Short or long term? Exploring possibilities? Residential or day visitors. Nurses and allied health professionals are welcome. http://www.cmf.org.uk/international/developinghealth/developing-health-course/

24th – 25th November 2012 – Medicine Unboxed: Belief. Conference in Cheltenham – www.medicineunboxed.com

Help Needed - First Aid Team at Soul Survivor

Soul Survivor is a charity which runs youth events, attended by over 28,000 young people last year. To make our events happen, we need volunteers who are committed to serving young people and want to help teenagers and 20-30 year olds to meet Jesus and come together to worship.
We’re searching for new volunteers for our First Aid Team to provide 24 hour First Aid cover for our delegates while they attend one of our 5 day festivals at Stafford and Shepton Mallet. Your responsibility, as normal, will be to respond to any urgent or emerging medical needs of the delegates across the site. The team is not only an opportunity to use your medical knowledge and skills but will also give you the chance to pray with delegates every day. As well as all that, when you’re not on shift, you’ll have the chance to enjoy the event itself for free. We’ll include all your meals and a camping space with your free place.
If you do volunteer, it would involve arriving on Day 1 of the festival for a meeting which MUST be attended, and would mean staying right the way through to the morning after Day 5. You would spend your time divided between being a presence in the main meetings, responding to incidents all over site and working in the medical centre.
So, if you’ve got a current and relevant First Aid qualification from St John’s, Red Cross or similar and indemnity from Soul Survivor, or you are a qualified Nurse with NMC registration, recent acute experience and full registration with RCN or Unison, or you are Paramedic with a recognised UK qualification and current appropriate indemnity cover or you are a Doctor with full GMC registration and indemnity with MDU/MPS (must be ST1 or above to get cover for SS – you must specifically tell them that you are volunteering for Soul Survivor to be indemnified) then we’d love you to get in touch and apply!

The dates:
Week A, Stafford – 27th-31st July 2012
Week B, Shepton - 7th-11th August 2012
Week C, Shepton - 12th-16th August 2012
Momentum, Shepton - 17th-21st August 2012
If you have any questions or would like to be involved please call 0303 333 1333, email or visit the website www.soulsurvivor.com/uk to find out more about what we do! Once you’ve applied, you can also follow us on Twitter at @SoulTeams for updates on dates and any other info you might need to know to get you ready for the week.
