A General Election message from Nola Leach

Dear Friends,

Are you finding it difficult to know how to vote at this election?  How can we decide?
Speaking to Christians around the country in recent weeks and months, I have been struck by the number of people who believe and understand it is a duty and privilege for Christians to vote but don't know where to begin!

If this describes your feelings too, I very much hope you have found CARE's General Election website www.engaGE15.org.uk useful.  With just 6 days until polling day I wanted to highlight three tools from the website which I trust will be particularly helpful for you.

The issues

This week we have published a series of short articles comparing and contrasting the manifesto commitments of the parties relating to issues CARE works on.  Where the manifestos are silent on key issues, we have included known information about the parties' positions.

MP voting records

We have compiled a database of how MPs have voted over a number of years on key CARE issues including abortion, marriage, assisted suicide, human trafficking and many more.  This will be particularly helpful on free vote issues where the parties don't have a set position.
Read more here.

Contacting candidates

Of course, not all MPs from the previous Parliament are standing again, but you can also contact candidates standing in your area to find out where they stand on crucial free vote issues.
Read more here.

There is a lot more information on www.engaGE15.org.uk – including information on why voting matters for Christians and what the Bible has to say about political engagement.
I hope you will find these tools useful and that they will help as you prepare to head to your local polling station on Thursday (or sooner for those who are voting by postal ballot!) to play your part in choosing our next Government.

God bless you as you prayerfully consider how to cast your vote,
Yours in Christ,
care sig
