Disciple-Making
in the DRC

International Ministry
Two and a half years ago we had the pleasure of training new emerging leaders to start sports ministry teams from 8 nations in Africa. One of those was from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Since then, Ruboneka has been busy modelling local ministry and multiplying teams to other parts of the country by training leaders and partnering with churches.

Amazingly, thousands of people have been reached with the great news of Jesus through detached sports activities, football tournaments and by beginning competitive football teams that play against other local teams. Over 20 sports ministry teams have been planted and trained to adopt this model of making disciples and disciple-makers for Jesus; so much so that one of the competing soccer teams are named 'The Disciples!'

Please pray for Ruboneka, other leaders and their teams as they are in desperate need of support to help cover travel costs, balls and bibles. If you sense you would like to help them please click here.

Youth taking a Lead

Local Ministry

One of the sports ministry strategies that we are most passionate about is Youth Sports Leadership Development. (YSLD) We believe teenagers can lead NOW and seek to disciple and mentor them to do so. YSLD focuses on experientially exploring Faith, developing Character, enhancing Skills and empowering Mission. This year's new group in Bath, England meet monthly to do so as well as additionally to serve in the community. Modules covered to date include 'Awareness' and 'Desire,' and their first community project was serving as volunteers on the Bath Half Marathon involving 12,000 runners and 40,000 spectators!

'Pouring Out' in Poole

National Ministry

One of the UK Community Sports Teams planted is in Poole, Dorset. Facilitated by servant hearted volunteers from different churches, currently their main focus is engaging with precious teenagers and young adults from local estates. The Friday night football group has grown from 6 young people to over 25 where the sport is played, teamwork is learned and character is developed through mentoring and disciple-making. Such has been the impact that entire families are now being engaged with and linked to local churches who are helping meet needs and go 'deeper' with a person's or a family.

As well as the weekly Friday night, the CST have taken these young people for a weekend away retreat with fun activities and bible discovery as well as forming an 11 a-side football team that now play competitive fixtures. Providing such opportunities and care in what can be a 'treacherous world' for young people is crucial and we so appreciate how this team is 'pouring out' it's lives for others.
