Fabulous and Fair Finale to Bristol’s Big Green Week

Arthur and Henry and Pants to 200 people enjoyed a fabulous feast for the senses at the Gala event of Bristol’s Big Green Week in City Hall on Saturday night, FareFashion, sponsored by The Co-operative.

Journalist and author Lucy Siegle hosted a night of fair and ethical food and fashion, with Fairtrade drinks and a sumptuous banquet from FareShare South West Surplus Supper Club, sponsored by Sustain Ltd, using food that would have been wasted by the food industry.

The WeDo Ethical Fashion Show proved once and for all that ethical clothing is not dull and frumpy, with fabulous collections from local, national and international designers such
Beauty queens plus Lucyas In Heels, Bibico, Mayamiko and People Tree, all using organic or fair trade materials and ensuring fair payment of workers in the supply chain.

Lucy inspired the audience to buy less, buy fair and wear for longer as part of the solution to the destructive impact the fashion industry is having on people and planet.

The glamour factor was greatly enhanced by the presence of 3 beauty queens – Miss England, Miss UK and Miss Bristol, all wearing ethical fashions (pictured with host Lucy Siegle). Bristol’s Mayor, George Ferguson, sporting green trousers for the event rather than his traditional red, emphasised how delighted he is that Bristol is taking the lead in promoting and using ethical food, fashion and Fairtrade.
