Time Commitment: 3 hours (Weekly - During Term Time)

Role Purpose
 
To support asylum seekers living in a nearby hotel by facilitating access to a shared kitchen space, enabling them to cook meals from their cultures and maintain a sense of dignity, independence, and well-being. The role will be a part of our wider work of befriending and supporting asylum seekers who live in Bristol city centre hotels.
 
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Welcome and support individuals during their kitchen sessions, providing a friendly and respectful presence.
  • Help residents understand and follow kitchen safety and hygiene guidelines.
  • Maintain clear communication with project coordinators regarding any issues or updates.
  • Monitor the condition of the kitchen and report any maintenance or safety concerns.

 
Skills & Attributes
  • Empathy, patience, and respect for people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to manage time and coordinate small groups.
  • Comfortable with basic kitchen operations and safety standards.
  • Awareness of (or willingness to learn about) the asylum system and associated challenges.

 
Training & Support
  • Full induction and training on kitchen policies, safeguarding, and cultural awareness.
  • Ongoing supervision and support from the project team.
  • Reimbursement for agreed travel expenses.
