“We stand before you today not just as students, but as witnesses to the silent struggles of young people in our community trapped in poverty. Poverty is an economic issue. It is a cycle that suffocates ambition, crushes potential, and makes even the simplest aspects of home life unbearable.” |
These powerful words were spoken by one of our Oasis Academy Lords Hill students in Parliament at the launch of our report on Child Poverty, in partnership with The Children’s Society. The report offers recommendations to a ministerial taskforce working on a child poverty strategy to improve the life chances of young people. |
Our message is simple: to eliminate child poverty we need to invest in joined-up, holistic support that cares for the whole lives of children, not just the time they spend in school. In other words, we need to invest in youth hubs.
