Universal Credit is the main way our social security system is there for us if we need it. But right now, it's pushing people to food banks because it isn't based on what the essentials, like food, bills and toiletries cost.
And here's something most people don't know.
The amount of Universal Credit has never been set against any real costs. No independent evidence. Just a political decision - and nobody is properly or regularly checking it against the cost of essentials.
That's not right and we need as many people to know this as possible.
